A key meeting on the implementation of the Ehsaas Fuel Support Scheme was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah, where progress on the initiative was reviewed and several important decisions were taken.
The meeting was informed that, on the directives of the Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the registration process for the scheme is currently underway. It was further shared that financial assistance will soon be disbursed to registered beneficiaries after the completion of the verification process. The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has introduced a simple and user-friendly mechanism for registration through the Dastak App.
Officials briefed the meeting that under the fuel subsidy scheme, financial assistance will be transferred to eligible individuals through a digital cash system. Motorcycle and scooter owners will receive a subsidy of Rs2,000; however, eligibility is subject to the condition that the vehicle must be registered in the applicant’s name.
The meeting was told that the initiative has been launched to reduce the financial burden on the public caused by rising global oil prices and to provide relief to low-income groups.
It is worth mentioning that the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also approved a one-month waiver of ownership transfer fees for motorcycles and scooters to enable more people to benefit from the scheme.
Additionally, the government has decided to waive bus stand fees for one month in view of the current situation, aiming to prevent a possible increase in public transport fares. The Chief Secretary directed district administrations to strictly enforce the officially notified fare structure, while TMAs and local authorities were instructed to ensure continuous monitoring of bus terminals.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Chief Secretary (General), and secretaries of Local Government, Transport, Finance, Agriculture, and Excise departments, along with all divisional commissioners via online participation. Emphasis was also laid on strengthening inter-departmental coordination for the effective implementation of the scheme.
