EVM imperative to ensure free, transparent elections: Babar

Islamabad: Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan has said that electronic voting machines are imperative to ensure free and transparent elections in the country. Addressing a news conference along with Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib in Islamabad on Friday, Babar Awan said EVMs will help end rigging in elections. He said overseas Pakistanis are asset of the country and their right of vote cannot be sabotaged. He said Parliament is supreme in Pakistan as it is the only forum for legislation. The Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs said we always tried to remove deadlocks with the opposition. He, however, said the opposition should play its constructive role in the best interest of the country. Speaking on the occasion, Farrukh Habib said free and transparent elections are foundation of strong and sustainable democracy. He said the opposition has no interest in the process of legislation and it is not cooperating with the government. Online
