Islamabad, November 12 (Online): Chief Justice (CJ) Islamabad High Court (IHC) Athar Minallah has remarked government itself is holding public meetings and on the other hand double standard is being pursued with regard to marquees.

CJ IHC gave these remarks while hearing a petition filed against government orders pertaining to ban on organizing marriage ceremony at indoor hall due to corona virus epidemic Thursday.

The court while issuing notice to National Command and Control Authority (NCCA) has directed the competent officer to appear in person before it on November 18.

The court has sought explanation over adoption of double standards by the government in respect of marquees.

CJ IHC remarked the court cannot take its responsibility if corona virus is spread in a wedding ceremony. We do ask from the government as to why discriminatory treatment is being meted out to marquees. On one hand government has imposed ban and on the other hand it is holding public meetings.

Sardar Taimore Aslam, defence counsel told the court NCCA issued notification on November 6 that holding marriage ceremony at indoor hall will not be allowed from November 20. Court is not interfering in policy matters. We too want this but it has to be decided that our opinion should be included therein. Public meetings by government and opposition are continuing in Hafiz Abad, Gilgit-Baltistan and other areas. Frame the policy but 10000 people should not be rendered jobless. Prime Minister says he will not stop the wheel of economy from moving ahead but why such things are being done with the marquees. If some marquee is violating any code of conduct then it should be sealed.

The CJ IHC remarked while smiling “ you will get ban imposed on others as well.

The court while seeking reply adjourned the hearing of the case till November 18.
