Every human being is unique in many ways. Not just his/her eyes , facial expressions, fingerprints etc are unique but also their behavior is quite distinctive in many ways . Even twins , they have identical physical features but their behavior may differ.
Likewise, you may have noticed that child’s behavior is identical to his/her parent’s behavior and a famous quote,“SON LIKE FATHER” also supports the fact that genes have a major effect on a person’s behavior. The twin and adoption studies indicate that most behavioral characteristics are heritable. Unfortunately , efforts to identify the genes influencing behavior of a person were not very successful, which may be because twin and adoption study findings mislead the researchers and also the difficulty of gene identification causes hindrance.
Not only the genes effect a person’s behavior but also the environment. As a result , travelling to different places , experiencing different surroundings and environment , we also experience different behavioral characteristics . With environmental variations we may also notice behavioral variations. Adoption studies are one of the classic tools of behavioral genetics . Twin studies are studies conducted on identical twins or fraternal twins.
Twin and adoption studies of different psychological and psychopathological characteristics are compatible in implicating the influence of genetic factors on personal differences in behavior. There are a finite number of certain association or gene connections for behavioral traits. There are many promising lead. The failure to identify the genes underlying definite human behavioral phenotypes may be taken that we have been misguided by twin and adoption study finding. Alternatively. the failure may simply reflect the difficulty of gene identification .
Behavioral genetic research is also consistent in pointing out that nonshared rather than shared environmental factors constitute the major source of environmental influence on behavior .
The auditive kin correlation provides a direct evaluation of shared environmental influences .
Genotype-environment interrelationship and communication process serve to differentiate behavioral phenotypes from medical or physiological genotype-environment interactions for human behavioral attributes considered to be vast , have been hard to recognize practically.
