Industries should arrange five million bales of cotton. Nine million bales of cotton are expected to be produced this year. We consume 108 kg of flour per person per year. One and a half million tonnes of wheat has been produced more than our demand. It is also importing three million tonnes to meet the 120-day strategic reserve. A food dashboard is going to be made. It will have a daily report of food quantity available in the county.Magistrates are being appointed in every market to control inflation.
We are moving towards stopping the import of agricultural commodities. According to international organizations, Pakistan is the cheapest country in the world.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is holding a farmers’ convention on June 30. Farmers are giving policy in it. Maintaining a balance between farmers, consumers, and industry in society is our priority. Rs. 4 crores would be set aside for cotton in the budget.
These views were expressed by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Food Security and Research Jamshed Iqbal Cheema while addressing the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) members at FPCCI Regional Office Lahore.
