Khattak says oil refinery being set up in southern belt

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said on Sunday that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was producing more than 53 percent oil as its production had jumped from 30,000 to 50,000 barrels per day.
Presiding over a meeting, he said that the production of the natural gas in the province had increased from 300 to 400 million cubic feet per day.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Managing Director of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Arbab Muhammad Saqib and other officials attended the meeting, said a handout.
The chief minister said the province was going to produce and provide cheap electricity to investors in the industrial zones to promote industrialisation.
Pervez Khattak said the government would use natural gas for the establishment of three power generation stations in Kohat, Rashakai and Hattar industrial estates and each one would produce 225 megawatts electricity that would be provided to industries at reasonable rates.
He added the government would be a sovereign guarantor to attract and facilitate investors in the province. He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was replete with natural resources and the government was creating an enabling environment for foreign and domestic investors to harness the resources for the expeditious development of the province.
The chief minister said that cylinder gas LPG production jumped from 10 to 500 tonnes per day during the last two and a half years and added that an oil refinery was being set up in the southern belt.
He said that the province enhanced oil production from 30,000 to 50,000 barrels per day and the target stood at 200,000 barrels per day and the government would create room for five refineries.
He added his government got 100 million cubic feet of gas from the federal government after putting up a two years struggle and it would ensure installation of three power plants in three industrial estates.
The chief minister maintained his government was working to establish urea fertiliser plant in Hangu district with the capacity of 500,000 tonnes per annum.
Pervez Khattak said that his government was striving to secure the rights of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the oil and gas sector. He said the KP government was helping other provinces and Fata to develop oil and gas sector to make Pakistan self-sufficient in energy sector.
