Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan on Tuesday directed officials to complete the Pehur High Level Canal (PHLC) project in Swabi by October, warning that no further delay would be tolerated.
During a detailed visit to various construction sites of the project, the minister expressed serious concern over the slow pace of work and ordered contractors and department officials to mobilize all available resources and ensure daily monitoring to meet the deadline.
Mr. Khan was accompanied by Provincial Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Aqib Ullah Khan, MPAs Abdul Karim and Rangez Ahmad Khan, Secretary Irrigation Muhammad Abid Wazir, the project director and other engineers.
The minister inspected ongoing construction, canal infrastructure and key engineering works, and was briefed on the project’s physical and financial progress, challenges, and the revised completion timeline.
“The KP government is fully committed to fulfilling its promises to the people. Timely completion of public welfare projects is among our top priorities,” Mr. Khan said. He added that the government would remove all administrative, technical and operational hurdles to ensure uninterrupted work.
He stressed that progress must not come at the cost of quality and directed officials to keep him regularly updated.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Aqib Ullah Khan and the two MPAs assured full cooperation and pledged to help address constituency-level issues to facilitate timely execution of the scheme.
The PHLC project was expected to improve irrigation services and provide long-term benefits to farmers in the area once completed.
