Islamabad(PR):Minister of State for CADD, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry constituted a committee comprising officials from the district governments of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) to take measures to control and eradicate Dengue in the twin cities.
The Minister chaired a meeting for effective Dengue control which was attended by the Mayor of Islamabad, Sheikh Ansar, district administration of Islamabad and Rawalpindi and representatives of CDA.
The Committee will coordinate with all the relevant wings and departments to ensure measures to control the outbreak of Dengue and effective eradication of the dengue larvae.
The Committee will also take necessary steps to efficiently manage the waste disposal in the city and urban areas which are the breeding ground for dengue larvae.
The Minister praised the effective dengue control system followed by the Punjab Government which yielded positive results in the severely infected areas. He said that the same model is being implemented in Islamabad which is proving successful as no loss of life has been reported in the city this year.
The dengue patients who are brought to hospitals in Islamabad are mostly from the suburban areas and adjoining districts of Islamabad, he added.
The meeting was informed that an Out-door and In-door preventive policy for dengue control is being pursued in the city. Out-door monitoring teams visit the sites and manually and chemically destroy the larvae and their reproductive culture.
The chemicals which are sprayed at the site are approved and authorized by the World Health Organization having ‘mine effect’ as the mosquito dies instantly as soon as it lands on the sprayed area.
Three hundred Lady Health Workers are working to destroy suspected in-door dengue breeding sites wherever such a site is reported.
It was further informed that whenever a dengue case is reported at certain place, 48 houses around the infected house and the nearby streets are sprayed with anti-dengue chemicals which effectively destroy the dengue breeding mosquitoes at the larval stage.
Officers of Municipal Corporation informed that preemptive measures have been taken to curb the spread of Congo virus in the make-shift markets of sacrificial animals set up for Eid-ul-Adha. A permanent camp of the medical experts has been set up at the market to monitor the situation and provide preventive sprays.
