Music week planned to honour Khyal Mohammad


PESHAWAR: The Pak-Afghan Journalists Forum would organize a music and cultural week in honour of noted Pashto singer Khyal Mohammad from October 24-30.A number of events will be organised at Nishtar Hall and Peshawar Press Club during the week.
Addressing a news conference on Friday, office-bearers of the Pak-Afghan Journalists Forum Sailab Mahsud, Syed Bukhar Shah and others said that the elderly Khyal Mohammad is a living legend of Pakhtuns on both sides of the border and is the recipient of the President’s Pride of Performance award in Pakistan.
They said that journalists, singers, poets and writers from Pakistan and Afghanistan have been invited to participate in the cultural, musical and other events.
“The main purpose of the week is to acknowledge the services of Ustad Khyal Mohammad for Pashto music, particularly in Pashto Ghazal singing,” said Sailab Mehsud. He added that the week would also be observed as “Amn Week” wherein writers and journalists from both countries will discuss issues related to Pakistan and Afghanistan with a view to promoting peace.
Pashto singer Bakhtiar Khattak said that on the first day of Khyal Mohammad week, a function would be held at Nishtar Hall where Khyal Mohammad would be present and speakers would pay tributes to him.
“On the same evening on October 24, a music concert will be held at Nishtar Hall where known Pashto singers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Afghanistan will sing the songs of Khyal Muhammad,” Bakhtiar Khattak added.
On October 25, an interactive dialogue will be held at Peshawar Press Club where writers, artistes and journalists will share their views to bridge the gap between Pakistan and Afghanistan. On the third day of the week, guests from Afghanistan, Balochistan and other parts of the country would visit the historical places and buildings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
