Terms three meetings in a year on Kashmir a diplomatic success

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Thursday that India has failed to convince the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that Jammu and Kashmir is a bilateral issue.
In his remarks on the UNSC meeting, which was held on Wednesday to discuss the situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK), the foreign minister said that the Council has reaffirmed the validity of its resolutions and that the final disposition of the dispute will be made through a free and impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations.
He said the current military siege of Indian Occupied Kashmir by Indian occupation forces and increased ceasefire violations pose a serious threat to peace and security in South Asia and beyond.
The foreign minister said that representatives of the UN Secretariat and UN Military Observer Group in Pakistan briefed the Council on the current situation in IOK. He said the meeting confirmed that the overall security situation is tense.
Giving his message to the people of IOK, Qureshi reassured them that Pakistan will continue to serve as their voice across the world.
Qureshi said that discussion on Kashmir issue at a UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting is another diplomatic success of Pakistan. He said the issue was debated on August 5 when India had taken unilateral illegal steps about the status of Jammu and Kashmir last year.
The minister said it has never happened before that the Kashmir issue is debated at the UN Security Council for the third time in a year.
Qureshi said that he had written a letter to the UNSC president, informing him that the human rights situation in IOK has fast been deteriorating, and the issue needs to be debated by the Council.
