PESHAWAR
Employees of the University of Peshawar (UoP) staged a strong protest on Monday against the non-payment of salaries and pensions, blocking a major road and causing severe traffic disruption in the city.
As per details, a large number of university staff gathered on University Road, where they blocked traffic to press for their demands. The road blockade resulted in long traffic jams, with commuters facing significant difficulties during peak hours.
Protesters stated that they are forced to demonstrate every month just to receive their salaries.
“We perform our duties regularly, yet we are not paid on time. What kind of justice is this?” one employee said.
They further highlighted that in the current period of rising inflation, delay in salaries has made it extremely difficult for them to support their families. The employees also accused both the university administration and the provincial government of failing to address their concerns.
In addition to unpaid salaries, retired employees complained that their pensions for February have still not been released, adding to their financial hardships.
The protesters warned that they would continue their protest if their demands are not met promptly.
