LAHORE (DNA): Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday underscored the need for improving the traffic system of different cities of the Province through re-engineering and effective traffic management.
\nHe was chairing the meeting of a steering committee set up for improvement of traffic system which considered various proposals for improving traffic system in Lahore and other big cities.
\nHe said that use of modern technology for traffic management is the need of the hour and the best traffic management system is the identity of a civilized society. The Chief Minister directed the committee to review the rules and fines with regard to the violations of traffic laws and submit its proposals on the earliest.
\nHe said that matters would have to set right while performing duty with the sense of responsibility and there should be zero tolerance policy for checking one-wheeling. He directed to make five roads of Lahore including Jail Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Allama Iqbal Road, PECO Road and Ferozepur Road as model roads.
\nHe said that the role of traffic education is of basic importance in traffic management and the traffic education program should be continued in educational institutions. Shahbaz Sharif directed to give final shape to the proposals regarding the provision of buses to the educational institutions.
\nChief Secretary has ordered concerned authorities to file reports after Chief Minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif took notice of alleged unequal utilization of funds in Punjab.
\nCM Shehbaz has taken notice after the news of utilization of funds in Lahore which were initially reserved for southern Punjab. It was reported on January 6 that Phase-II project over expansion of roads in Lahore has been initiated under which Canal Bank Road would be expanded from Thokar Niaz Beg to Doctor Hospital in first stage and then from Doctor Hospital to Mall road.
\nLikewise, Mall Road would be expanded till Harbanspura. As per investigation carried out by Roznama Dunya, Punjab CM approved Rs 2 billion for expansion of various roads in provincial capital aiming at reduction of traffic miseries.
\nRs 5.12 billion were approved for same scheme by Chairman P&D during sitting of provincial development board and Rs1.40 billion were approved in fiscal year 2015-16 from supplementary grants for which Punjab CM relaxed rules. DNA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
