Islamabad(PR):A delegation from the Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI) met with Patrick Moody, the Acting British High Commissioner to Pakistan.
\nLed by Ms Samina Fazil, the founding president of the IWCCI, the delegation of prominent businesswomen discussed opportunities to further the trade links between the UK and Pakistan and explored ways to increase the opportunities for women entrepreneurs in Pakistan.
\nLooking to increase trade in both directions, they also discussed areas of cooperation after the establishment of the British Business Centres in Pakistan.
\nAt the occasion, Patrick Moody said, the UK and Pakistan are partners, and strong trade ties are the foundation to this relationship. There are many British businesses operating in Pakistan, but the recent establishment of the British Business Centres in Pakistan is another step forward in building our trade relationship. I am delighted to meet with Samina Fazil and the members of the Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and I congratulate them on their successful initiative, he added.
\nHe said that, \u201cthe UK actively supports the increased participation of women in the area of trade and commerce. UK help, through the State Bank of Pakistan, has already resulted in an increase of six million microfinance borrowers in Pakistan, more than 50 percent of whom are women.
\nWe are also supporting women to acquire new skills through our partnership with Punjab Skills Development Fund. At the same time, the UK\u2019s support through the Benazir Income Support Programme continues to help the poorest women in remotest regions of Pakistan, he added.
\nAt the occasion, Samina Fazil, Founder President of the Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, \u201cIslamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a platform exclusive for the aid and assistance of female entrepreneurs and professionals.
\nFor last 15 years, this chamber has been providing an atmosphere to cater the needs and requirements of women entrepreneurs and by helping them to promote their businesses in local and international markets, she said.
