PM inaugurates Karachi-Hyderabad M-9 motorway
\nVows All promises made in elections to be fulfilled
\nKARACHI
\nPrime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated a 75-kilometre-long section of the Karachi-Hyderabad M-9 Motorway.
\nAddressing the inauguration ceremony, the premier expressed satisfaction that work on the motorway is \u201c60 per cent complete\u201d.
\n\u201cToday, people are witnessing a naya Pakistan being built,\u201d Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said. \u201cMotorways are no longer a distant dream. All promises will be fulfilled by 2018.\u201d
\n\u201cToday the world is seeing a naya Pakistan.\u201d
\n\u201cWe spent day and night trying to strengthen the economy. Today the nation is beginning to stand on its own two feet.\u201d
\n\u201cBridges, interchanges and service roads are being built. On the other side, work on the Multan-Sukkur motorway has been intitiated… Building the nation is not a game,\u201d he added.
\n\u201cWhen we took the reigns of the country, we were in a sorry economic state. There were youngsters with skills but no one to employ them. In such times, there are negative forces that try to mislead these youngsters,\u201d he cautioned.
\n\u201cAny country in the world that has become modern started with creating better infrastructure… and Pakistan could have seen the progress that we started in 1999 had we not been stopped halfway through,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cElectricity had abandoned us, as if it was unhappy with is. But we have started bringing it back to Pakistan. 1,000 megawatts will be added to the grid this year,\u201d he said signalling the government\u2019s intent to rely more on renewable energy.
\n\u201cLoad shedding will end completely in 2018. Solar power and wind mill projects are being created. We are looking ahead, thinking of the future requirement for power,\u201d he added.
\n\u201cThese are the problems we are focusing on, we don\u2019t have time for dharnas,\u201d he said in a veiled reference to his opposition.
\nHe challenged the opposition to compete against him on the basis of progress and development.
\nConstruction on the 136-kilometre-long six-lane motorway began in Sept 2015 and is expected to be completed by March 2018 at a cost of Rs36 billion, Radio Pakistan reported.
\nThe completed section of the M-9 has four interchanges – the Dada Bhoy, Industrial Valley, Nooriabad and Thano Bola Khan interchanges.
\nThese interchanges will provide access to various areas, including Keer Thar National Park, Jhampeer, Kinjhar Jheel and Thano Ahmed Khan.
\n\u201cThere are certain people who, for their personal interests, are busy in misguiding the youth,\u201d he said. \u201cThose traveling in helicopters and airplanes should also come on ground and witness these roads for themselves,\u201d he added.
\nSpeaking about the development in Balochistan, Nawaz said that he wanted the whole world to witness the progress that was taking place in the province.
\n\u201cToday, you can have breakfast in Gwadar and then lunch in Quetta,\u201d he said. \u201cOur entire focus is on the development of infrastructure in Balochistan,\u201d he added.
\nNawaz said that the country was on the verge of bankruptcy when he had taken over as the Prime Minister. However, now he said that Pakistan\u2019s economy was standing on its own two feet. He said that the current government would also successfully tackle the problem of load-shedding in Pakistan. He expressed the hope that Thar would produce cheap electricity.
\n\u201cThe Thar coal mine will help to produce cheap electricity,\u201d he said.
\nUpon arrival in Karachi, Nawaz was welcomed by new Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair, CM Murad Ali Shah and other officials.
