LAKKI MARWAT: Members of district council have expressed concern over slow pace of work on uplift schemes and poor law and order situation in Lakki Marwat district.
\nThey expressed these views while speaking at a meeting of the council held at the district headquarters complex, Tajazai, on Tuesday.
\nDistrict naib nazim Arab Khan presided over the meeting, where district nazim Ishfaq Ahmad Khan Meenakhel was also in attendance.
\n\u201cThe cancellation of tendering process and delay in issuing work orders to contractors are the main reasons for slowing the pace of uplift works,\u201d said Ameer Nawaz of JUI-F. He said the council members were made to visit the houses of contractors to convince them to launch work on uplift schemes in their respective localities.
\nAbdul Ghafoor Khan asked the district government to allocate funds for provision of drinking water to the residents of Takhtikhel union council.
\nHe also demanded provision of sewing machines to women of rural areas to enable them to earn livelihood.
\nCouncillor Maulana Asghar Ali said the rural roads were in deplorable condition and asked the communication and works department to tell the house where they spent funds meant for repairing roads.
\n\u201cContrary to the tall claims of provincial government the officials of different departments are involved in receiving commissions on uplift schemes,\u201d alleged Maulana Samiullah Mujahid.
\nOther members expressed concern over poor law and order situation and asked the police to take notice of the excesses low ranking officials were committing with innocent citizens.
\n\u201cRaids without search warrants and keeping citizens in illegal detention are not acceptable at all,\u201d Waheed Aslam Khan said.
\n\u201cThe station house officers show disrespect to the district councillors when they visit police stations in connection with public complaints,\u201d said Advocate Salahuddin.
\nA minority member Pitras Maseeh demanded allocation of funds for repairing and widening of broken old kachery road in Lakki city. He also demanded repair of the temple which was being used by education department for running a boy\u2019s primary school.
\nA district councillor from Lakki city Shafqatullah Khan Khoidadkhel asked the government to compensate the flood-affected residents of urban locality. He underlined the need for construction of dykes to protect the urban areas from hazards of flashfloods.
\nWinding up debate, district nazim said the district government had repaired 19 out of 55 faulty water supply schemes.
