Veteran says he wants to go out on a winning note

\nSenior batsman Mohammed Hafeez has said he will delay his retirement if this year\u2019s T20 World Cup in Australia is postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
\nThe 39-year-old former captain planned to end his 17-year international career after the World Cup in November but with hosts Australia labelling the tournament\u2019s schedule as \u201cvery high risk\u201d Hafeez is now ready to play on.
\n\u201cI gave retiring from T20 cricket after the World Cup a lot of thought,\u201d Hafeez said in a video conference.
\n\u201cI want to retire from T20 cricket after playing a big tournament in which I perform well, and hopefully go out on a winning note.
\n\u201cThis is my plan, and if the World T20 is postponed to November or some later time, that doesn\u2019t mean I won\u2019t play it.\u201d
\nHafeez quit tests in late 2018 but remained active in limited-overs cricket and played the 50-overs World Cup in England last year.
\nHe was recalled to the T20 squad for the home series against Bangladesh in January and has also been picked for Pakistan\u2019s tour of England in August-September.
\nWhile there have been growing calls for Hafeez to call time on his career, he said he was still good enough for international cricket.
\n\u201cI\u2019m not going to quit cricket because someone asks me to, just like I never started playing at someone else\u2019s behest,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cI\u2019ve spent the last 17 years justifying my selection, and I hope I\u2019ll justify my selection again this time. All I\u2019d like to say is \u2014 my career, my choice.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
