SWABI: Members of the Swabi district council on Saturday demanded that the provincial government increase their share in development funds to help them meet the expectations of their voters.
\nSpeaking at a meeting here, they said without the provision of required funds they could not fulfill the pledges they had made with their voters during the election campaign.
\nAamir Nawab, a member from the Maneri Bala union council, said the provision of adequate funds to the councillors was necessary for strengthening the local government system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
\nOATH-TAKING: Role of both the print and electronic media has become all the more critical amid the upsurge in terrorist attacks in Pakistan. This was stressed by the speakers at the oath-taking ceremony of the District Union of Journalists (DUJ).
\nAsad Qaisar, Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, was the chief guest. He administered oath to the newly-elected office-bearers of DUJ. Leaders of various political parties, members of NGOs, officials of the district administration and media persons were in attendance.
\nPolitical leaders emphasised the need for media people to observe the principles of journalism while discharging their duties in the present complex situation.
\nThey said professionalism was the hallmark of journalism.
\nThey said the journalists had always played their due role in educating the masses about the government\u2019s policies, pointing out flaws, corruption and inability of the leaders to deliver according to the pledges they made during the election campaigns.
\nThey said that journalists had also to play a crucial role in the upcoming general elections in the country, educating the people and the politicians about the importance of the vote.
\nOn the occasion, Asad Qaisar said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government was facilitating the media persons in pointing out flaws in the government policies to ensure good governance. He announced Rs1.5 million for DUJ members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
