\nSoon after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf members of Sindh Assembly have staged a protest against K-Electric over unannounced load shedding in the metropolis, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority on Monday decided to hold public hearing in the matter on July 10.
\nA day before, Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly Firdous Shamim Naqvi has expressed during a press conference outside K-Electric\u2019s office that residents of the metropolis were sick of the company saying it would be the best time for distribution of power supply should be given to other companies through a tender before 2023.
\nIt is worth mentioning that two days ago while talking to a private television channel the K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi claimed that no load shedding was going on anywhere in Karachi saying the weather was pleasant as demand had dropped to 3,000MW which the K-Electric could easily generate. PTI\u2019s leader claimed, \u201cK-Electric does not have the capacity to take more than 600 megawatts of electricity from the national grid,\u201d. Naqvi reiterated that people of Karachi were suffering from power outages since the beginning of the summer.
\nEven though K-Electric has assured Sindh Governor Imran Ismail last month that unannounced load-shedding in the city would come to an end in 48 hours and an increase in the power supply from the national grid from the usual supply of 650 megawatts (MW) to 800MW, the load-shedding of more than 12 hours continues in the city unabated. Several areas of the city braved eight to 12 hours of power outages on Saturday. In the wee hours of the day, most areas of the city were without power.
\nOn Monday, during a protest, members chanted slogans against K-Electric outside its head office and demanded to overcome intense power outages. The protesters also expressed the Karachities were facing immense problems in doing their routine work due to the load shedding.
\nWhile taking serious notice of the complaints regarding excessive load shedding by K-Electric in Karachi the NEPRA on Monday decided to hold a public hearing on July 10 via video link. Inviting all interested stakeholders and general public in the hearing the NEPRA said they will given chance to share views and comments regarding prevailing load shedding position in Karachi.
