ISLAMABAD (DNA): The President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain has awarded prestigious Tamgha-i-Pakistan award to Ambassador of Romania Emilian ION for promoting bilateral relations and his bravery as he survived Naltar helicopter crash last year.
\nIt may be mentioned here that a helicopter carrying diplomats and their families was crashed in Naltar last year in which five people including ambassadors of Norway, Indonesia were killed. In the same crash wives of ambassadors of Indonesia and Malaysia were also killed.
\nAmbassador of Romanian was also in the same helicopter but he along with his few other colleagues miraculously escaped unhurt. The High Commissioner of Malaysia, and ambassador of the Netherlands got serious burn injuries and it took a long time to them to recover. The Malaysian high commissioner has already resumed his duties in Islamabad after recovery.
\nThe Ambassador of Romania Emilian ION, who is also acting dean of diplomatic corps is leaving Pakistan in two days after completing his seven and half years tenure. During this period he did many things to promote and strengthen bilateral relations between Romania and Pakistan.
\nLast week he inaugurated Romanian consulate in Peshawar. Romania has already consulates in Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad. All these consulates were opened during the period of Ambassador Emilion ION.
\nOthers who have been awarded Tamgha-i-Pakistan include Mr. Moinuddin husband of Ambassador of Lebanon, dR. Hasrul Sani Mujtabar High Commissioner of Malaysia, Marcel de Vink former Dutch Ambassador, Mr. Mpendulo Kumalo High Commissioner of South Africa, Dr. Andrezej Ananiez former Ambassador of Poland and his wife Mrs. Zofia Ananiez.
\nWhile former Ambassador of Indonesia Burhan Mohmmad his wife Hery Setyawati Burhan, Ambassador of Norway Lief Holger Larsen, ambassador of Philippines Domingo Lucenario Jr. and wife of Malaysian HC Mrs Habiba Mahmud who lost their lives in that crash have been awarded Sitara-i-Pakistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
