\nPESHAWAR
\nSpeaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, on Wednesday, approved the formation of 37 standing committees, including the most important Public Accounts Committee.
\nFollowing frequent protests from the opposition lawmakers in the house, the custodian of the house had dissolved all the standing committees six months ago.
\nAs per the rules of business 1988 of the KP Assembly, the concerned authority issued separate notification for each of the 37 committees.
\nIn the absence of committees for almost half-a-year, the house could not hold viable debate on issues of public importance.
\nAccording to the notifications, the speaker will chair the Law Reforms and Public Accounts committees, the Deputy Speaker, Mahmood Jan, will head the Business, Rules & House and Library Committees. The opposition lawmaker Samar Haroon Bilour has been given the charge to head information committee, Shahdad Khan was made chairman of Endowment and Hajj Committee, Shafiq Afridi will chair Environment Committee, while Sardar Yousuf and Pir Fida Advocate will lead Industry and Judicial committees, respectively.
\nLegislators Nazir Ahmed, Aurangzeb Nalotha, Amir Nazir, Nawabzada Faridullah, Arbab Waseem, Rabia Basri, Amir Nazeer, Farzand, Shaukat Ali, Maulana Lutfur Rehman, Wajidullah Khan, Muhammad Shafiq, Neghat Orakzai, Muhammad Idrees, Zako Ah, Sitara Aafreen, Sitara Aafreen, Pakhtun Yar Khan, Mohammad Ibrahim, Inayatullah Khan, Zafar Azam, Sardar Babak, Laiq Mohammad Khan, Liaquat Khan, Asiya Saleh, Sher Azam Wazir, Azizullah Khan and Fazal Shakoor Khan will lead the Admission Committee, Excise and Taxation Committee, Communication and Works Committee, Finance Committee, Agriculture Committee, Health Committee, Higher Education Committee, C&W, Irrigation, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Local Government Election, Food, P&D, Population Welfare, Revenue, Administration, Social Welfare, Establishment, Elementary Education, Sports Culture, Science and Technology, Housing, Inter-Provincial Coordination, Energy and Power, Transport, Public Health Engineering standing committee, Labour committee, Minerals and Relief Rehabilitation, respectively.
\nObservers said that constitution of standing committees was a positive step as issues of public interest and importance will be taken up for debate in these bodies.
