The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government has many accomplishments to narrate on the completion of its two years. Sadly, these actions do not inspire the people on the streets who have undergone the worst kind of inflation, layoffs, shrinking income and depletion of savings in the last year. Let us first detail the achievements.
\nThe government deserves full marks in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. In the last 24 hours, 617 cases of the virus and 15 deaths from the coronavirus related issues were reported across the country. Though the country has yet to eradicate coronavirus completely, it has brought down the number of cases to the lowest level to the extent that the Pakistani government\u2019s strategy is becoming a case to study for many countries still reeling from everyday emerging positive cases and related deaths. The government handled the pandemic with smart and creative solutions, initially showing a heavy hand to every confirmed, suspected and recovered case and side by side putting masses on blanket, selective and smart lockdown. The government did not forget the downtrodden segments of society and provided them with cash handouts and meals besides efficient medical treatment. Prime Minister Imran Khan tried to boost the morale of the nation in the most pressing times with his televised addresses. Other than the pandemic handling, the government made the economy healthier despite the novel coronavirus crisis. Small businesses were sustained with the help of soft loans. The government kept the export-oriented sectors in the swim by injecting them with packages, and as a result, exports grew by six per cent in the last six months. In recent weeks, Moody\u2019s, Fitch and Bloomberg have spoken highly of Pakistan\u2019s economic growth. On the shores of diplomacy, the government focused on frustrating India\u2019s efforts to isolate Pakistan regionally and internationally but we can see Pakistan has lots of allies across the world as \u201ca dramatic shift can be seen from diplomatic isolation to effective representation\u201d. The government has made India-held Kashmir\u2019s revocation of statehood an international issue. Pakistan is not anymore a \u201cpart of the problem\u201d in the US books. The US and Pakistan are working efficiently on Afghanistan. The progress on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is going smoothly. Iran is eager to grow economic ties with Pakistan, while Turkey wants to boost the ongoing economic projects. Domestically, the ruling elite has not been caught in any major corruption scandal. This, however, does not mean the government\u2019s past year has been without any negatives.
