Sharif says PML-N to fight \u2018NAB-Niazi nexus\u2019

\nAn accountability court on Tuesday granted 14-day physical remand of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif in the assets beyond means and money laundering case.
\nThe court directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to present Sharif before it on October 13.
\nThe NAB prosecutor requested the court to grant physical remand of the PML-N leader for further investigation into the assets beyond means and money laundering case against him. He stated before the court that the NAB needs Shehbaz\u2019s custody for interrogation about important matters. He added the accused refused to answer the questions put to him on Monday and quoted him as saying that he had told them all he had to tell them.
\nShehbaz denied any wrongdoing and argued his case himself in the court.
\nFollowing the arguments, Judge Jawad-ul-Hasan accepted NAB\u2019s request and ordered for Shehbaz to be presented in the court again on October 13.
\nEarlier, a team of the national graft buster presented him before the court amid tight security.
\nTalking informally to the media after reaching the accountability court, PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif claimed that the \u201cnexus\u201d between the NAB and Prime Minister Imran Khan has failed and his party will fight the \u201cNAB-Niazi nexus\u201d.<\/p>\n
The anti-graft body has claimed that the assets of Shehbaz\u2019s family ballooned from Rs2 million to Rs7 billion in the last 30 years, which they have failed to justify. This was detailed by the NAB in a document, which showed that in 1990, the opposition leader\u2019s declared assets were worth Rs2.121 million which had grown to Rs7,328 million by 2018.<\/p>\n
The NAB stated that in the year 1990, Shahbaz had declared his net assets at Rs2.121 million, whereas his net assets (including the assets of his minor children) had increased to Rs14.865 million in the year 1998.<\/p>\n
The anti-corruption watchdog alleged that the PML-N president, in connivance with his co-accused family members, benamidars, front men, close associates, employees and money changers, developed an organised system of money-laundering for the accumulation of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs7,328 million.<\/p>\n
