Islamabad: A graceful convocation of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, (SCEE), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), was held at the university\u2019s Jinnah Auditorium. Degrees were awarded to the students of Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Environmental Engineering, Bachelor of Geographical Information Systems, MS in Environmental Engineering, MS in Environmental Sciences, MS in Geo Technical Engineering, MS in Remote Sensing and Geo Graphic Information Systems, MS in Transportation Engineering, MS in Construction Engg and MS in water resource Engg. Lieutenant General (Retired) Naweed Zaman, HI (M) Rector NUST was the Chief Guest. 196 students were conferred Bachelor\u2019s degrees and 176 were conferred Master\u2019s Degree in their respective disciplines. The chief guest awarded the degrees to the graduates and congratulates them on this memorable achievement. He also praised the parents and teachers for their support in helping graduates reach their goals. Rector NUST mentioned that last year 46000 students applied in NUST different Academic Programs and only 2000 students were selected for admission, so you are among the few who had the opportunity to be nurtured and groomed by a prestigious institution like NUST and SCEE. He said in short span of time NUST got distinction at international level as today it is ranked in top 600 universities of the world. It has recently been ranked in the top 100 universities of the world universities under 50 years of age. NUST has collaboration with 109 universities in the world and currently 69 students are enrolled in these universities through student exchange program. He also said as a leader in higher education, NUST has also been making efforts to promote the culture of entrepreneurship at national level. In order to cater for the needs of emerging and young entrepreneurs, NUST has established the Technology Incubation Centre, which is currently housing 34 start-up companies with 250 knowledge workers. These companies are already generating revenue of over one million US dollars. In addition, 20 companies have already graduated from the center and are earning five million US dollars in revenue annually. He said currently NUST is in the process of establishing country\u2019s first National Science and Technology Park. Once established, it will prove to be a catalyst for industrial revolution in the country.
\nAt the end he gave few words of advice to the graduates like In order to excel in your professional lives you will have to put in consistent hard work and adopt principles like sincerity, established character qualities and honesty. Your country requires you as competent professionals and good Pakistani\u2019s and Muslims.
\nRemember for all times to come you will be recognized as Pakistani\u2019s and Nustians. Do not do anything which is contrary to the established norms and ethics. Carry yourself with dignity and pride and always remain attached with your Alma- Mater.
\nOn the occasion gold and silver medals were awarded to outstanding graduates in academics and final year projects. President\u2019s Gold Medal for MS in Environmental Engineering was awarded to Nazeer Abbas. President\u2019s Gold Medal for MS in Environmental Sciences was awarded to Maleeha Jamal. President\u2019s Gold Medal for MS in Geo Technical Engineering was awarded to Jamal Ali. President\u2019s Gold Medal for MS in Environmental Sciences was awarded to Maryam Zafar. President\u2019s Gold Medal for MS in Remote Sensing and Geo Graphical Information System awarded to Tahir Saeed. President\u2019s Gold Medal for MS in Transportation Engineering awarded to two students Malik Kamran Shakir and Muhammad Adeel. In Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, President\u2019s Gold Medal for Best in Academics was awarded to Shahid Mehmood Akhtar. Rector\u2019s Gold Medal for Best Final Year Project was awarded to Shozab Mustapha. Chancellor\u2019s Silver Medal for 2nd Best in Academic was awarded to Tasneem Mazrzban.In Bachelor of Engineering in Environmental Engineering, President\u2019s Gold Medal for Best in Academics was awarded to Hafiz Zargham Bin Imran. Rector\u2019s Gold Medal for Best Final Year Project was awarded to Syed Haider Ali. Chancellor\u2019s Silver Medal for 2nd Best in Academic was awarded to Najla Shafqat.In Bachelor of Engineering in Geoinformatics, President\u2019s Gold Medal for Best in Academics was awarded to Fatima Afzal. Rector\u2019s Gold Medal for Best Final Year Project was awarded to Syed Ramiz Sami. Chancellor\u2019s Silver Medal for 2nd Best in Academic was awarded to Tooba Shahzad.
\nEarlier Principal SCEE Dr. Tariq Mehmood in his welcome address extended heartiest felicitations to the graduating students, their parents and loved ones. The Principal SCEE wished them the best of luck and a very successful profession in the future. He also congratulated the faculty whose hard work has borne fruit in shape of producing graduates for the country.
