PESHAWAR, NOV 20(APP): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is pursuing a multi-pronged strategy to cater to energy needs and diverting more energies on introducing initiatives for solarization of localities and mosques that have been off the grid.<\/p>\n
As part of such efforts, an amount to the tune of Rs450 million has been approved for solarization of mosques and other worshiping places in merged districts of the province, says Asfanyar an official of the energy department.<\/p>\n
Talking to APP, he said that currently there were three projects ongoing for solarization of 4000 mosques in merged and other parts of the province and 20 percent work was completed on those schemes.<\/p>\n
He said the work on those projects were continuing in full swing with full support of the local population and tangible measures were afoot to complete them timely.<\/p>\n
He said that these worshipping places were off the grid and identified by the elected representatives of the area concerned and the entire process was carried out in a transparent manner.<\/p>\n
In the past, he said the southern districts were neglected in terms of provision of accessibility to basic necessities of life, but unlike the governments of other political parties in the province, the PTI government had focused more on development of the southern areas of the KP and installed 2900 units of solar energy in the central and southern districts.<\/p>\n
He said solarization initiatives would help a great deal to overcome requirements of those districts by ensuring inexpensive electricity supply. <\/p>\n
He said the government believed in austerity measures and had always tried to judiciously utilize the funds, thus several key public sector\u2019s offices had been included in the solarization initiatives including Civil Secretariat and Remaining Departments of Civil Secretariat, Chief Ministers House and the Chief Minister\u2019s Secretariat.<\/p>\n
He said that electrification of 100 Villages through solar was also included in the policy which would ensure smooth power supply to them.<\/p>\n
The present provincial government for the first time had initiated hydropower projects in public private partnership mode to diversify the hydropower potential and develop more number of projects with less investment from provincial exchequer.<\/p>\n
As a result, the official said thousands direct and indirect job opportunities will be created and the people would have a decent source of livelihood.<\/p>\n
The government of and the World Bank recently signed an agreement for development of hydro power projects, worth $450 million, adding the project will support construction of 88MW Gabral-Kalam Hydropower Project, 157MW Madyan Hydropower Project Planning and Management consultants.<\/p>\n
The initiative would help unlock the vast renewable energy potential of KP and increase the production of renewable energy in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
