\nSays Indian belligerence poses threat to regional peace, stability

\nPresident Dr Arif Alvi has approved the Anti-Rape Ordinance 2020 to fast-track cases of sexual violence against women and children.
\nIn a series of tweets on Tuesday, President Alvi gave details about the ordinance. The ordinance suggests setting up of Anti-Rape Crisis Cells by the Prime Minister, which will be authorised to conduct medico-legal examination within six hours of the incident.
\nA NADRA (National Database & Registration Authority ) database to identify sex offenders. The ordinance prohibits revealing the identity of a rape victim or survivor and has made it a punishable offence
\nUnder the Ordinance, special courts will be set up across the country to expedite trial of rape cases on priority basis. The special courts will dispose of the rape cases within four months.
\nThe legal fraternity has termed the proposed laws against rape and sexual abuse of women and children a gimmick and said mere legislation will not solve the problem unless policing is improved and the prosecution is properly trained.
\nThey said there are sufficient laws available to tackle heinous crimes like rape, gang-rape and child sexual abuse but these were not implemented.
\n\u201cThese are gimmicks and will not solve the problem,\u201d said Rana Waqar, former additional attorney general. \u201cThe laws in other countries are less harsh but the crime is under control, so the problem is not with the laws,\u201d he said.
\nSeparately, President Dr Arif Alvi has said that Indian belligerence poses a threat to regional peace and stability.
\nIn an interview to SASSI Security Review on Tuesday, he said New Delhi is committing human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said Pakistan will continue its support to oppressed Kashmiri people in their just struggle for right to self-determination.
\nHe urged the International community including United Nations Security Council to play their due role in resolving the lingering issue of Kashmir according to aspiration of Kashmiris.
\nReplying to a question about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the President said that this is a project of development and prosperity for the region and Islamabad will not allow anyone to sabotage this mega initiative. He said New Delhi is trying to disrupt this game changer project through its nefarious designs using different tactics.
