ISLAMABAD, March 08 (Online): Federal government has opposed in unequivocal terms Justice Qazi Faez Isa plea in connection with live broadcast of the proceedings of the court in appeal plea regarding the presidential reference.<\/p>\n
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has remarked government should not tell us what we have to do and what we have not to do. <\/p>\n
A 10-member larger bench of Supreme Court (SC) presided over by Justice Umar Ata Bandial took up the case for hearing Monday. <\/p>\n
At the inception of hearing Additional Attorney General (AAG) opposed the live broadcast of the proceedings saying what point has not been raised in prime case cannot be raised in review case. Justice Qazi Faez Isa petition is not maintainable. No application has been received from any journalist or journalist organization for live coverage. Giving the permission for live coverage is policy matter. <\/p>\n
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah remarked it is era of science and technology today. We hear the lawyers of Balochistan and KP while sitting in Islamabad today by using video link technology. The sole powers for allowing or otherwise the live coverage of the case rest with the SC. Federal government can not say to SC what we have to do and what we have not to do. Your job is to assist the court. <\/p>\n
AAG replied federal government stance is also this that it is judicial power of SC but it is its administrative power. <\/p>\n
Justice Munib Akhtar remarked if federal government has no powers in connection with live coverage then no litigant has any power to tell what SC has to do . Can the SC make arrangement for live coverage in other rooms of court if the capacity of court is not sufficient. <\/p>\n
AAG said the court wields these powers. <\/p>\n
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah remarked at present the whole world has become global village. The man who is sitting in Gwadar has right that he could hear and see the coverage of court room. Pakistani who lives in far off areas of the country cannot come to SC due to financial hardships. We are stuck up to it that what is going on will continue to go on this way. Neither you nor we have any secret which is prohibited. If some judge misbehaves then it should go public. If some law officer or any lawyer misbehaves it should go public. The people should have right to express opinion on court\u2019s decisions. Why we are hiding what are the reasons. All should go public. <\/p>\n
Justice Qazi Faez Isa said on rostrum that government is stifling media. Earlier government has annihilated the media. Now they will go after You tube I am being defamed publicly. Propaganda is being launched against me through controlled media. If the coverage is live then all will witness that what is right and what is wrong. They fear from right and truth. <\/p>\n
Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked \u201c I can not meet you privately. I would have told you after meeting you privately that you are receiving full fledged coverage. <\/p>\n
