PESHAWAR: The Local Government Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has constituted 14-member governing body for running the affairs of the Ladies Club in University Town Peshawar.
\nThe step was taken following the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan. A notification issued here said the management committee comprising five government officers and nine local residents would work for one year or till holding of the elections. The government also notified the rules for the club under Local Government Act 2013.
\nSecretary Local Government and Rural Development Department Syed Jamaluddin Shah was appointed chairman of the governing body. Other members, included Peshawar deputy commissioner secretary Local Council Board, director general of Sports, Tehsil Municipal Officer of Town-III and permanent residents of University Town associated with Sports, Culture and Women Welfare affairs.
\nUnder the rules, there will be a complete ban on using land of the club for any other purpose except healthy activities of the locals. Similarly the club could be given neither on lease, rent nor any encroachments could be made anywhere on the club premises. The governing body has been allowed to affiliate the club with other reputed clubs all over the country, including Civil Officers Club, Peshawar Club, Gym Khana Club Lahore and Islamabad Club, etc.
\nThe rules have also covered the procedure for the club membership, fee structure and code of ethics. \u201cOnly permanent residents of the University Town can become the club members. However, defaulters, the bankrupt and convicted persons are not eligible for the membership,\u201d said the communiqu\u00e9.
\nThe management committee has been tasked with appointing sports, culture and entrainment committees in the next couple of weeks to provide better recreation facilities to the locals in all these fields. It is worth mentioning here that a major portion of this 38 kanals grand park was given on long-term lease for commercial purposes during the Awami National Party-Pakistan People s Party\u2019 coalition government due to unavailability of the rules. The commercial concerns included Dewan-e-Khas and Coffee Pot.
\nHowever, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak took a strong notice of the public complaints about illegal occupation of the club after the present government came into power. The district and municipal administration came into action and got freed the park from Qabza (grabbing) Mafia.
