ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an opposition parties\u2019 alliance, head and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is contemplating convening meeting of the alliance on 28th of this month in order to start the anti-government movement afresh.<\/p>\n
Most trusted sources in the PDM confirmed that the alliance planned to hold countrywide rallies and public gatherings against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government in June and July this year.<\/p>\n
Sources further disclosed that initially on May 21, JUI-F will take out rallies against Israeli atrocities on Palestinians followed by the party\u2019s Majlis-e-Shoora\u2019s meetings on May 23rd and 24th at which JUI-F chief will take his party into confidence on planned anti-government movement.<\/p>\n
Following, sources added, massive protests in June and July, the PDM also planned to set out on a long march in August so that the government could be sent home.<\/p>\n
PDM had been formed by the country\u2019s major opposition parties, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), JUI-F, PML-N, Awami National Party and some others, to show Imran Khan-led government the door since it believed the government had come to power, not on the basis of people\u2019s votes but was \u2018selected\u2019 by the establishment.<\/p>\n
On March 16, 2021, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PCM) Chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman had announced the postponement of the long march which was initially scheduled to be held on March 26.<\/p>\n
The decision was taken as the Pakistan People\u2019s Party, a key component of the PDM was reluctant to tender resignations from assemblies alongside the long march.<\/p>\n
In a brief chat to media workers, Fazl said that nine parties had agreed to resign from the assemblies except for the PPP. He said that PPP had sought time to make a consensus on the resignation issue.<\/p>\n
He said the PPP leadership has said that they would take up the matter at their CEC meeting. He announced postponing the PDM long march until the decision of PPP. Later, Maulana Fazl left the press conference.<\/p>\n
Later, on March 26, a major crack appeared in the opposition parties\u2019 alliance when PPP, without consulting other parties of the alliance, managed to get its leader, former prime minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani elected as Leader of the Opposition in Senate with the help of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) votes.<\/p>\n
Sources told media that Gilani had managed to secure 30 votes for the slot. They further said that even four independents Senator Ahmed Khan, Senator Kuhda Babar and Naseebullah Bazai had thrown their weight behind him.<\/p>\n
