Launches first-ever Green Eurobond formally<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Imran Khan has formally launched Pakistan\u2019s first-ever Green Eurobond to build dams in the country.
\nAddressing the launching ceremony, the prime minister said the government has planned to construct ten dams in ten years to meet water needs and produce clean energy.
\nAcknowledging the progress made in the construction process of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams during the last two-and-a-half years, he said these two water reservoirs will produce 10,000 megawatts of clean and environment- friendly electricity in the country.
\nHe congratulated the chairperson of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and the authority as well. He lamented that Pakistan has a history of starting projects but not finishing them. \u201cWe cannot progress until we complete long-term projects,\u201d he stressed.
\nSaying the country had been regressing since 1985, PM Khan noted that Pakistan lacks long-term projects in every sector. \u201cDue to the absence of long-term projects, Pakistan was not able to progress,\u201d he added.
\nThe prime minister said that Pakistan is one of the most affected countries by climate change and global warming in the world. To address this challenge, the government is effectively working on tree plantation drives under the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami programme. He further said that this programme will considerably improve living standards of people, besides promoting tourism and reducing pollution. He said that the plantation target of one billion trees has been successfully achieved.
\nImran Khan said that 15 special national parks are being established to protect and preserve the natural environment. He said the government is working on long-term planning to save the next generations as such policies are imperative for development of the country.
\nReferring to the public welfare programmes initiated by the government, the prime minister said that a unified curriculum is being introduced to ensure quality education across the country.
\nHe touched upon the country\u2019s health sector, saying that in Pakistan, doctors, nurses and the paramedical staff were quite few in number compared to the overall population.He said the PTI government has launched an exemplary health programme to provide universal health coverage to masses. He said that 100 percent of the population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been provided health coverage while Punjab will be covered this year.
\nPrime Minister Khan said the government is working towards generating wealth in Pakistan, adding that the River Ravi in Lahore and Bundal Island projects in Karachi were reflective of that.
\nEarlier, speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin said that Green bond has been becoming popular globally as countries re-orient their policies to join the raise to zero omission.
\nHe said the success of this transaction is a reflection of the confidence of the international community in the policies of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
\nHe said that Pakistan\u2019s efforts, to meet environmental challenges, are being recognised globally. He said the Ministry of Finance is fully committed to contributing to the prime minister\u2019s vision to overcome adverse impacts of climate change.
\nHe said the Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams projects are critical to the country\u2019s future energy, water and food security needs.
\nThe Green Euro, called Indus Bond, has been issued by WAPDA to raise $500 million for the financing of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand dams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
