Azeez-ul-Rehman, a religious preacher, who was earlier arrested for sexually assaulting his student, has accepted his crime during investigations, sources said Monday.
\nEarlier on Sunday, Police arrested Mufti Aziz ur Rehman, a former JUI leader, with his son from Mianwali.
\nVideo of Rehman had gone viral in which he could be seen sexually abusing a student.
\nPolice had registered a case against the former JUI leader and his sons, after the student alleged he was being blackmailed and threatened by Rehman’s sons.
\n“If justice is not done, I will commit suicide,” the survivor had said.
\nThe superintendent of the madrassa, where Rehman worked, had said that the cleric had been fired after the video went viral.
\nSuperintendent Asadullah Farooq had said Rehman and his sons had been asked to leave the madrassa and the institution was not responsible for any of their acts.
\nMeanwhile, JUI Lahore’s secretary-general had also issued a notice stating that after the video, the party had suspended the membership of Mufti Rehman and that it would remain revoked till the investigation concludes.
\nThe incident sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for the former JUI leader to be arrested.
\nOn Monday, police said that accused while recording of his statement said that he was involved in the video. He assaulted his student Sabir Shah in the name of passing him in exams. His sons threatened Sabir later after the video had gone viral, which Sabir recorded in private.
\nAzeez has said that he didn\u2019t want to leave madrasa, but the management and caretaker had asked me to do so.
