Shakira has joked her mother-in-law was to blame for the “worst” haircut she ever had.<\/p>\n
The Hips Don’t Lie singer took a trip down memory lane to remember her most iconic fashion and beauty moments for a new episode of British Vogue’s Life in Looks YouTube series and voiced her regret over her “terrible” 2012 choppy shoulder-length hairstyle.<\/p>\n
“She said, ‘Hey, why don’t you cut your hair? It’s really damaged,'” Shakira recalled her mother-in-law Montserrat Bernabeu told her. “Worst mistake of my life.”<\/p>\n
The star then looked straight into the camera to deliver a light-hearted warning to her sports star partner Gerard Pique’s mother, saying, “I’m not taking cosmetic advice from you again.”<\/p>\n
As Shakira examined the photo of her sporting the hairstyle when she was honoured by the French Ministry of Culture in 2012, the star revealed she has fonder memories of the Alaia A-line dress she wore.<\/p>\n
The 44-year-old star has “great affection” for the outfit because it was created by the late designer Azzedine Alaia, who was a “great friend” to her.<\/p>\n
“His style has always gelled with the female figure, with a woman who’s not very tall,” she smiled. “So, they always suited me. It’s a shame about my haircut, mother-in-law.”<\/p>\n
During the video, Shakira also remembered the belly dancer-inspired outfit she wore for the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards, as well as her “complicated” sparkling burgundy two-piece Super Bowl ensemble which was designed by Peter Dundas. The Waka Waka singer singled out the matching boots she donned for the 2020 halftime show, revealing they were a pair she’d had in her wardrobe for close to 20 years.<\/p>\n
“I’m quite picky about the boots that I sing in because I always feel really uncomfortable in shoes. I used to sing barefoot,” she said. “There are only two or three pairs of shoes that I like and this is one of them.<\/p>\n
“They were black, we covered them with Swarovski. And it took three days to cover them, crystal by crystal. People didn’t sleep. We thought we wouldn’t make it.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
