\nOn the eve of Defence Day falling on Wednesday September 6 former President Asif Ali Zardari has called for unity of thought and action in fighting our real enemy namely the militants and extremists.
\n\u201cOn this day in 1965 the nation demonstrated unprecedented unity. We need revival of the spirit of 1965 in defeating the new forms of aggression against the state and society\u201d Zardari said in a message on the eve of Defence of Pakistan day.
\nThe worst enemy posing existential threat to our state is the militant and extremist mindset, the former President said.
\nHe urged the people to root out this enemy who while residing within the country has escaped detection, prosecution and punishment.
\nToday more than ever we need to close our ranks to defend the country against all kinds of threats particularly the existential threat emanating from the militants, he said.
\n\u201cOn this day I call upon everyone to usher into a new dawn with renewed determination in this fight against extremism and militancy\u201d he exhorted the nation.
\nLet us today pledge that we will never allow anyone to endanger our existence as a moderate, democratic, tolerant and peaceful nation. Let us reiterate our resolve that political choices in Pakistan will be made by the ballot and not through force, coercion and intimidation, the former President said.
\nOn this day we pay homage to our great sons and daughters who laid down their lives in the defending our frontiers. They sacrificed their lives so that we lived in freedom. They did not die in vain.
\nZardari condemns ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims; Implores UN to take notice
\nFormer President of Pakistan and head of the Pakistan People\u2019s Party Parliamentarians Asif Ali Zardari has condemned the atrocities against Rohingya Muslims as \u201cbarbaric and unacceptable\u201d and asked the UN to immediately step in and end the ongoing genocide of Rohingyas.
\nNo words are strong enough to condemn the atrocities against the Rohingya Muslims and the international community must wake up to its responsibility he said in a statement today.
\nThe genocide and massacre of Muslims in Myanmar will only widen the space for militants, he warned. I also urge the Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi to put to an end this barbarism, he said.
\nAung Suu Kyi\u2019s silence on ethnic cleansing of the minority Muslim population is deafening. It is starkly inconsistent with the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to her for her struggle for peace and human rights, he said.
\nAung Suu\u2019s inability or unwillingness to act swiftly and decisively will make calls for revoking the Nobel Award louder and louder, he said.
