{"id":228527,"date":"2021-11-21T08:04:31","date_gmt":"2021-11-21T03:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/?p=228527"},"modified":"2021-11-21T08:04:31","modified_gmt":"2021-11-21T03:04:31","slug":"zardari-files-fresh-plea-for-acquittal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/zardari-files-fresh-plea-for-acquittal\/","title":{"rendered":"Zardari files fresh plea for acquittal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KARACHI<br \/>\nFormer president Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday filed a fresh plea in the accountability court of Islamabad seeking his acquittal in the Toshakhana (gift depository) reference under the new National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law.<br \/>\nThis is the second time the PPP co-chairman has filed an acquittal plea in the case. He moved the fresh application through his lawyer Sheeraz Rajpar on the basis of the recent amendments made to the country\u2019s accountability law.<\/p>\n<p>He challenged the jurisdiction of the NAB court to hear the reference.<\/p>\n<p>Zardari states in his plea that he is being subjected to political<br \/>\nvictimisation. The national graft buster instituted bogus and baseless<br \/>\ncases against him, he added.<\/p>\n<p>The application argues that the reference doesn\u2019t fall within the domain<br \/>\nof the accountability court after the promulgation of the National<br \/>\nAccountability (NAO) Ordinance, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>He pleads with the court to quash the Toshakhan reference filed by the<br \/>\nNAB.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2020, the court had indicted the former president along<br \/>\nwith former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani in the case. Zardari is<br \/>\naccused of illegally keeping expensive vehicles gifted by various heads<br \/>\nof states and other foreign dignitaries instead of depositing them in<br \/>\nthe Toshakhana.
