\nA prestigious event was organized at Peshawar Model School Girls 5 under the auspices of Bardasht Foundation in collaboration with NCSW, Icon Valley, jaaidad.com and Icon Life to create awareness among the students regarding Gender Violence Base.
\nThe event was presided over by Neelam Khan Toru, President Bardasht Foundation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muslim Taj Vice President Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet, Dr. Nooran Afridi General Secretary, Murad Khan Information Secretary, Junaid Toru Finance Secretary, Rohi Zahir Shah and other members participated.
\nThe event was attended by a large number of female students of Peshawar Model School Girls 5.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Neelam Toru said:
\nAccording to the Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey 2017-18, 56% of the victims of violence in the country are women between the ages of 15 and 49 who are married and do not tell anyone about the violence against them. Get some help. As a result of this silence, 28% of women are victims of physical violence, with FATA having the highest proportion of women victims being 56%. Balochistan has the second highest proportion of women victims of violence in the country, with 48% of married women in the province experiencing physical violence. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ranks third with 43%. Sindh has the lowest rate of violence against women in the country at 14.6%. According to a 2019 survey by the Peace and Security Index on Violence Against Women in Pakistan, Pakistan ranks 164th out of 167 countries.
\nTo protect women across the country, the government of Pakistan has set up more than a thousand special courts across the country in 2019 for speedy verdicts in cases of violence and sexual abuse, with the aim of focusing on issues related to violence against women in Pakistan However, the incidence of sexual abuse of women and innocent children has not decreased across Pakistan.
\nUnder Pakistani law, rape in the country is punishable by death or imprisonment for 10 to 25 years, while gang rape cases are punishable by death or life imprisonment. Violence against women and girls is not a new phenomenon across Pakistan, but it is increasing alarmingly over time. The concern is that despite the harshest punishments and special courts, when will gender-based violence end in Pakistan? And why is it growing?
\nThere is an urgent need to educate and educate the society about the prevention of violence against women and children. Boys need to be taught to respect women so that they can look at other women besides their mother and sister with respect.
\nDr. Nooran Afridi, General Secretary, Bardasht Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, referring to the Gender Violence Base, said that the government and institutions should make the students a part of this awareness campaign in schools every year.
\nInshallah, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet is conducting this campaign in different districts.
\nNowadays, physical violence and mental stress are increasing on women.
\nIn these 16 days, we will try to do this awareness campaign for female students in schools.
\nSaeeda Atiq, Principal, Peshawar Model School Girls 5 said that it is an honor for us today that the Bardasht Foundation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa started its awareness campaign with Peshawar Model School Girls 5.
