\nUnited States (US) will focus on building up bases in Guam and Australia to better prepare the US military to counter China, International media reports revealed Tuesday.
\nBiden administration has made countering China its main foreign policy priority as tensions have increased with Beijing, particularly over the issue of Taiwan and senior Pentagon officials have publicly expressed alarm about China\u2019s efforts to upgrade and modernize its military. Last month Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said China had successfully tested a hypersonic missile in what was \u201cvery close\u201d to a Sputnik moment.
\nTo counter China, the review directs the Department to enhance \u201cinfrastructure in Guam and Australia,\u201d and to prioritize \u201cmilitary construction across the Pacific Islands,\u201d the official said, as well as \u201cseeking greater regional access for military partnership activities.\u201d
\n\u201cIn Australia, you\u2019ll see new rotational fighter and bomber aircraft deployments, you\u2019ll see ground forces training and increased logistics cooperation, and more broadly across the Indo-Pacific, you\u2019ll see a range of infrastructure improvements, in Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Australia,\u201d Karlin said during the briefing.
\nThe global posture review also directs the Department to focus more on the Indo-Pacific region by \u201creducing\u201d the number of troops and equipment in other areas of the world, \u201cto enable improved warfighting readiness and increased activities\u201d in the Indo-Pacific, the official said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
