\nA senior Emirati security official is due in Iran on Monday, ISNA news agency reported, in the latest outreach between the two countries since a downgrading of ties five years ago.
\nUAE National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al-Nahyan \u201cwill arrive tomorrow in Tehran\u201d at the invitation of Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran\u2019s Supreme National Security Council, the semi-official news agency said Sunday. It will be the first visit of an official from the United Arab Emirates to Iran since the Gulf state in 2016 downgraded ties with the Islamic republic.
\nThat came after protesters attacked Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran following Saudi Arabia\u2019s execution of a revered Shiite cleric.
\nShiite-majority Iran and its Sunni rival Saudi Arabia have held several rounds of talks since April aimed at improving ties.
\n\u201cThe development and reinforcement of bilateral relations and examination of regional developments\u201d will be under discussion during Sheikh Tahnoun\u2019s visit, ISNA said.
\nThe mission will follow a November 26 trip to the UAE and Kuwait by Ali Bagheri, Tehran\u2019s chief nuclear negotiator.
\nIn Abu Dhabi Bagheri met Anwar Gargash, adviser to the UAE president.
\nBagheri said at the time there was agreement to \u201copen a new chapter\u201d with the UAE and to \u201copen new horizons\u201d with Kuwait, which also belongs with Saudi Arabia and the Emirates in the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council.
\nThe Emirates and Iran have remained important economic partners. Bagheri will meet Sheikh Tahnoun before talks between Iran and major world powers are expected to resume in Vienna later this week. The negotiations on Iran\u2019s nuclear programme ended on Friday after re-starting five days earlier.
\nWashington on Saturday warned it would not allow Iran to \u201cslow walk\u201d the nuclear talks while at the same time ramping up its atomic activities.
\nThe United States is an indirect party to the talks involving Iran, Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia.
