\nLeft-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan has been appointed as the skipper of the Bangladesh U19 team for the upcoming U19 World Cup in the West Indies. The Bangladesh Cricket Board put forth the decision on Tuesday, December 7.
\nThe 19-year-old is also set to lead the junior Tigers in the upcoming edition of the U19 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. After taking part in the tournament, Bangladesh will fly to the Caribbean Islands to play in the World Cup.
\n\u201cWe have picked Rakibul as he is the senior most player of the team and can handle the boys well in the field,\u201d Sazzad Ahmed, the BCB game development chief selector, was quoted as saying in Cricbuzz on Tuesday.
\nRakibul was a crucial member of the Bangladesh team that won the World Cup in 2020 under the leadership of Akbar Ali. The tweaker was the standout bowler for his side, having picked up 12 wickets from six games at an incredible economy rate of 3.05.
\nRakibul has also taken part in five first-class, eight List A and 18 T20 matches, picking up a total of 40 wickets. Last year, he was also a part of the Gazi Group Chattogram team in the inaugural edition of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup. There, he plied his trade under the leadership of Mohammad Mithun.

\nBangladesh U19 have had a decent run of late as they won the triangular series, also involving India U19 A and India U19 B, on Tuesday. In the final on Tuesday, they defeated India U19 B by 181 runs at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
\nSazzad said that the win will boost the confidence of the team after the series losses at the hands of Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
