PESHAWAR
\nKhyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar has taken an initiative to revamp curriculum and assessment of nursing, rehabilitation and allied health sciences in line with the modern healthcare system.
\nIn this regard a meeting of owners and heads of public and private institutions affiliated with KMU was held where Muhammad Daud Khan, Secretary Higher Education Department (HED) Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the chief guest.
\nOn this occasion vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, Registrar Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Gandapur, dean of basic medical sciences Prof. Dr. Jawad Ahmed, dean allied health sciences Prof. Dr. Haider Darain, dean clinical sciences Prof. Dr. Lal Muhammad Khattak, Chairman central curriculum committee Prof. Dr. Zia-ul-Islam, director IHPE & R Dr. Brikhna Jamil, director QEC Syeda Asiya Bukhari and heads of various institutions, faculty and administrative staff were also present in large number.
\nDuring the meeting, Secretary HED, Muhammad Daud Khan said that there could be no compromise on the quality of health education as it was directly related to human life.
\nThe services rendered by KMU in providing quality health services to the people of the province in the form of trained health staff are commendable.
\nHe said the university, its vice chancellor and other concerned officials deserve congratulations on the reform process initiated to bring the curriculum and review process of Nursing, Physical Medicine and Allied Health Sciences in line with modern requirements and health needs of the province.
\nDaud Khan said that the present government was giving special importance to health education in the private sector and today\u2019s meeting was a link in the same chain.
\nHe said that since health was related to human life, there can be no compromise on its quality. He said that the steps being taken by KMU to improve the quality of practice in the field of medical education along with the theory are commendable.
\nHe said that the reform agenda being pursued by KMU to bring the curriculum and review process in line with modern requirements and international standards is not only a timely step in the right direction but also the need of the hour.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq said that it is a matter of concern that the fourth leading cause of death after heart disease, diabetes and cancer in our country was the negligence and carelessness of the health staff as well as lack of professionalism and non-compliance with established protocols.
\nHe said that while KMU was doing its best to encourage private sector health education, on the other hand no compromise would be made on clinical and skill training of students and improvement of their professional ethical standards.
\nHe said that KMU has initiated a comprehensive series of reforms to improve the quality of curriculum and assessment, the results of which will be seen in the form of well-trained health staff.
\n He said, \u201cwe have decided to celebrate 2022 as the year of quality for which the necessary guidelines have been provided to all the affiliated institutions and all these institutions would be reviewed and rated according to the prescribed criteria.\u201d
