\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) in Collaboration with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women university and Directorate General Law and Human rights, organized an event titled with \u201cInternational Human Rights Day\u201d.
\nThe event was organized in observance of 16 Days of Activism to end gender-based violence, attended by different segments of the society including the Govt officials, CSOs and academia.
\nDr Riffat Sardar, Chairperson KPCSW said that Ending Violence against Women is Possible, if we stand together, Promote and respect the human rights.
\nThe government has made laws for the protection of women and they must be made aware of them. She said women should opt for careers without any fear because as the number of working women increased, it would boost the economic growth of the country.
\nThey working in different sectors in the country faced different kinds of violence and all of the victims were not harassed by men only but by females also.
\nMs. Rubab Mehdi Regional Commissioner, Protection Against harassment, Peshawar said this year the theme for human rights was \u201cgender equality\u201d and we can connect the equality lessons from the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). she said further that the policies made by United Nations in different matters, reflected the teachings and traditions introduced my Islam.
\nDr. Asad Ali Director General law and human rights said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the first province to have introduced and passed the Human Rights Act in 2014.
\nHe said that education enabled a person to differentiate between the right and wrong and was encouraged to speak against discrimination.
\nHe said it was our moral duty to speak against harassment and violence. It included men, women and transgender community as well. \u201cWe have to protect each other\u2019s rights to make this society positive,\u201d he said.
\nNaimat ullah, Deputy secretary, Law and Human Rights Department said that all Human Beings are born equally, having equal rights and entitled to equal protection of law.
\nVice Chancellor of SBBWU Prof Dr. Razia Sultana said. \u201cWe need to accept gender equality and accept the fact that by doing so we will create a more positive culture that will lead to a positive and productive society that will protect the human rights of every person,\u201d she remarked.
\n\u201cIt is a sensitive matter and shouldn\u2019t be taken lightly. Women should be given importance as they are no less competent than men,\u201d she further noted.
