ISLAMABAD
\nPrime Minister Imran Khan has urged the local banks to facilitate the salaried class seeking loans to build their houses under the government\u2019s subsidised schemes.
\nWhile addressing the launching ceremony of \u2018Mera Pakistan Mera Ghar Housing Finance Scheme\u2019 in Islamabad on Friday, the prime minister lamented that past rulers never made policies for the poor segment of the society. \u201cThis elitist mindset has caused tremendous damage to the country and the country\u2019s development had never been inclusive,\u201d he added.
\nThe prime minister said the gap between rich and poor has widened in the country over the years due to the inequitable policies aimed at only facilitating a \u201csmall segment of the society\u201d. He lauded the private banks for disbursing housing loans to the salaried class and urged them to further facilitate them so that masses can build their own houses.
\nThe premier said his government\u2019s housing finance policy will boost the country\u2019s construction sector and economy.
\nHe reiterated the government\u2019s commitment for inclusive development in the country by mainstreaming the poor and downtrodden segments of society. He said this is the first time that poor and low income families in the country will have their own homes.
\nThe prime minister, on the occasion, handed over keys of houses to people getting loans from banks for construction of houses. He also distributed letters of appreciation to the banks showing remarkable performance in issuance of loans.
\nEarlier speaking on the occasion, Advisor to the PM on Finance Shaukat Tarin said this initiative will enable poor and low income families to fulfil the dream of having their own homes.
\nGovernor State Bank of Pakistan Reza Baqir said the banks have granted approval to Rs109 billion for this project while Rs32 billion have been disbursed so far.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
