ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry Thursday said that the first cargo ship carrying urea will reach Pakistan on February 10 from China days after the country faced a shortage of it. In a tweet, Fawad said that the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the import of 150,000 tonnes of fertilizers from China and the first shipment of 50,000 tonnes will arrive on 10th of next month. He said that the 600,000 tonnes of local fertilizer will also start to come in the market from this month. He said that despite high prices of fertilizers in the international market, Pakistani farmers will not face any shortage. It is pertinent to mention here that the approval of urea import from China was given in a meeting of the ECC presided over by Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin on Wednesday. The import was allowed on a government-to-government basis and tasked the Trading Corporation of Pakistan with negotiating the price with a Chinese supplier authorised by the government of China for further import of urea.
