\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) detected 12 more Omicron cases, including six from Peshawar, on Friday.
\nSo far, 64 Omicron cases have been reported in the province, including 25 from Peshawar, the epicenter of Covid-19 pandemic since its onset in 2020.
\nThe provincial capital during the last 24 hours also recorded a positive ratio at three percent, said a report of the health department.
\nPublic Health Reference Laboratory (PHRL) in Khyber Medical University (KMU) reports said that 12 cases of Omicron reported from Peshawar, one each case reported from Malakand, Nowsehra, Haripure and two case of the new variant detected in district Mardan.
\nThe patients include five men and seven women of different ages.
\nAs many as 104 new patients were tested positive for coronavirus illness, COVID-19 from KP while the virus claimed one more life from the province in the last 24 hours.
\nThe total number of patients so far reported from the province has reached 182100 of which 5953 have lost their lives due to the illness.
\nThe number of active cases from the KP has been recorded as 775 on Friday.
\nA total of 1,060 vaccination facilities, 1026 centers, 34 mass vaccination centers have established for vaccination against the Covid-19 in the province
\nMoreover, the health department has also activated 78 mobile vans for the purpose.
\nIn view of the emergence of the new variant, the authorities here on Friday made the coronavirus test compulsory for the people entering the country through the Torkham border.
\nDirector Public Health Naik Dad told the media that the steps had been taken to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
\nHe said those entering the country through the Torkham border were now required to get tested for the coronavirus.
\n\u201cThose who test negative and have a valid report will be allowed for entry,\u201d he maintained.
\nHe said all those who crossed the Torkham border must be screened and a single shot vaccination would be administered before they could proceed towards their destination.
\nHe further said that the National Command Operation Center (NCOC) has relaxed the condition of quarantine centers for patients suffering from coronavirus from abroad and has also given them the facility to stay in quarantine at home.
\nMoreover, Naik Dad said that Omicron variant has entered Pakistan with foreigners, adding that the number of health personnel stationed at Bacha Khan International Airport and Pak-Afghan Torkham border has been doubled.
\nMoreover, the provincial government set up an isolation center with 130 beds in Landi Kotal Hospital.
\nIt is to note here that NCOC in its meeting on Friday also decided to reduce the age limit for booster dose.
\n\u201cFrom tomorrow (Saturday) onwards, citizen over 18 years will be eligible for free booster dose of their choice. Booster (one dose) will be administered after a 6 months gap from complete vaccination,\u201d NCOC said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
