\nDo you know from which plant methamphetamine or ice is made? The methamphetamine and ephedrine used in ice are made from a plant called Ephedra – the plant is called Umman in the common language of Afghanistan.
\nAbdul Wadud Market, located in Bakwa District in Farah Province, southwestern Afghanistan, is currently known as the largest center for the sale and purchase of Ephedra, with approximately 220,000 kilograms, worth Rs 125125, of crushed Ephedra lying around, as estimated by satellite images.
\nThe plant is grown in the rugged mountains of southwestern Afghanistan, and there are about 448 laboratories in southwestern Afghanistan to make ice that are rapidly transferring 220,000 kilograms of Ephedra to ice.
\nEphedra cultivation was banned in December, but there is no doubt that this plant is the only source of livelihood for the people of this backward area.
\nTaliban government is facing financial crisis and the ban on Ephedra cultivation will not be remained for long.
\nMillions of tons of narcotics have been produced in Afghanistan at present and their smuggling has become a vital target to get Afghanistan out of financial difficulties.
\nHowever, for the incumbent government of Afghanistan it will be a major challenge to control the production of a plant caused Ice drug.
\nIt is pertinent to mentioned here that the overall ice business and its cultivation in neighboring country has largely impacted Peshawar and other parts of the country.
\nAccording to police report 2021 around 14000 people booked for involving in drugs pushing.
\nThe report said that during the year around 15 Ice units have also been unearthed and seized around 500kg ice, 4862kg Charras, and 956kg of heron.
\nCapital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahsan Abbas in a statement has disclosed that students of colleges, universities and other educational institutions are vulnerable to Ice.
\n He said that during the last year police have launched a major anti-ice campaign, adding that people and other social activists should help police to curb the menace of Ice and save our generation from the new form of drug.
\nIt is pertinent to mention here that most of the young generation in Afghanistan has also addicted to Ice.
\nCapital City Police in its annual report 2021 shared that during the year around 1100 drug addicted persons have been rehabilitation centers during the year as more than 1000 beds have been reserved for drug addicted people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
