\nThe unpaid workers hired by a private firm to run the costly RO plants in the desert district on Wednesday staged the demonstration out side Press Club Mithi to register their protest against the non-payment of their salaries.
\nIrfan Bajeer, Ramesh Kumar, Khuda Bux and other leaders of the protesting workers and operators said that officials of the private firm, which had taken the contract from the high-ups of Sindh government to put over 630 dysfunctional RO plants across the district had paid not paid them their salaries for past eight months.
\nThey said that due to non-payment of their salaries and other dues they were finding it hard to even make both end\u2019s meals. The leaders warned that in case of failure by the officials, they would widen the scope of their protest and would block different roads of the town.
\nHere it is pertinent to mention that a new private company was given the contract reportedly of Rs 2 billion to repair and put in operation the faulty RO plants by high-ups of the Sindh government after the contract with another private firm had expired many months back.
\nThe credible sources said that the officials of the firm, like the previous company, had not bothered to put the major waterworks including the biggest RO plant at Misri Shah area near Mithi town but were only trying to hoodwink the people by making false claims that their experts were busy correcting the major faults developed by the costly plants after they were terribly tampered with unskilled workers and some unscrupulous elements.
\nThe local people believed that this was another eyewash by the high-ups of Sindh to make money through the kickbacks by exploiting the plight of Tharis in the wake of terrible drought-like conditions in the desert region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
