\nFederal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin has said that the economy of the country will grow by 4.5 percent to 5 percent during the current fiscal year
\nShaukat Tarin in a media interview on Thursday said, \u201cI am still hoping that it (growth rate) could be 5 percent. I it could be between 4.5 to 5 percent,\u201d adding next year (2022-23) it would go up to 6 percent of GDP.
\nThe minister said, Pakistan was on track except it had to face certain difficulties through international commodity prices.
\nHe said that in the beginning, the growth was overshooting as exports were high; remittances had also increased, tax collection had gone up by 32 to 35 percent, utilization of electricity had gone up by 13 percent whereas the corporate profits were at historic high.
\n\u201cWe will be doing more than 5 percent given the fact that last year\u2019s growth comes now with the rebasing of the economy at around 5.57 percent,\u201d he added.
\nThe minister said that since he took over last April, the country obviously had done a lot of consolidation through the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme. He said the country also had to face Covid-19 and then the government focused on inclusive and sustainable growth. \u201cWe did whatever we had to in terms of giving incentives to our industry. Also putting a lot of money in agriculture and housing,\u201d he added.
\nOn the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, Tarin said the current program should be enough and if Pakistan started generating 5-6% balanced growth, there would be no need for another IMF programme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
