Drops hint at Bill Gates\u2019 investment in Pakistan\u2019s IT sector: Announces zero tax regime for registered free lancers

\nPrime Minister Imran Khan has inaugurated the E-Commerce Portal to promote and facilitate freelancers and e-business in the country.
\nAddressing the inauguration ceremony on Monday, the prime minister announced a zero tax regime for registered freelancers in Pakistan.
\nThe prime minister urged the youth to take benefit of government incentivised policies in the IT sector. He said the government is determined to remove all barriers in the way of e-commerce.
\nAppreciating efforts of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for polio eradication in Pakistan, Imran Khan said he always wanted Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation\u2019s co-chair Bill Gates to invest in the IT sector of Pakistan and in this regard good news will soon be announced.
\nKhan said the government is working on an emergency basis for the promotion of the IT sector as Pakistan\u2019s future is linked with it. He said the government has started different training and crash courses to educate the youth in e-commerce. \u201cWe have given small incentives and in a span of a year or two, our IT exports have jumped from $2 billion to $3.75 billion. Our youth has taken much advantage of the small incentives provided by the government,\u201d the prime minister said. The prime minister said the government would move the hurdles in the way of the youth so they could benefit from the \u201ctechnological revolution\u201d.
\n\u201cThe system in the country has stopped the majority from rising in the country [\u2026] all the other countries have a structure through which people rise,\u201d the prime minister said, adding that he had made the cricket team from scratch, but they still excelled.
\n\u201cWhenever our nation has been given the opportunity, they have excelled [\u2026] and this can only happen in a country where God has given natural talent to people. This can never happen anywhere else,\u201d he said.
\nThe prime minister said the government was also focusing on revamping the cricket structure in the country, and they had succeeded in changing it to a certain extent. \u201cThey might also become cricketing giants in the days to come, they might become undefeatable.\u201d
\nThe PM lamented that the education system in the country is stopping the youth\u2019s talent, while on the other hand, in the Western world, it is completely the opposite. He noted that the education sector is linked with the IT sector. \u201cWe are conducting crash courses and indulging youth in taking higher IT-related courses.\u201d
\nHe said IT-related courses would help empower women as they could earn money while sitting at home. He said women could \u201cwork in any environment\u201d if they have IT skills and support their families.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Prime Minister\u2019s Special Assistant to on E-Commerce Aon Abbas Bappi said the government is making vigorous efforts to take the volume of e-commerce trade from existing four billion dollars to 7.5 billion dollars by the end of this year and nine billion dollars by next year. He said the PTI government is the first one, which announced the first ever e-commerce policy of the country that helped increase internet users to 110 million. He said there are one million active freelancers in Pakistan, comprising a large component of female users.<\/p>\n
