{"id":249154,"date":"2022-03-13T08:28:32","date_gmt":"2022-03-13T03:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/?p=249154"},"modified":"2022-03-13T08:28:32","modified_gmt":"2022-03-13T03:28:32","slug":"piaf-terms-electricity-price-hike-dangerous-for-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/piaf-terms-electricity-price-hike-dangerous-for-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"PIAF terms electricity price hike \u2018dangerous\u2019 for industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> ISLAMABAD<br \/>\nThe Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) said Saturday the high cost of doing business has proved to be dangerous for Pakistan\u2019s industry, discouraging investment both in capacity and capability, calling for lessening the burden of heavy taxes on the power sector.<br \/>\nPIAF senior leadership in a joint statement criticized the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for shifting power distribution companies\u2019 inefficiencies\u2019 burden of almost Rs58 billion to the consumers by jacking up the tariff by Rs5.94 per unit under Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) to be charged through March 2022 electricity bills.<br \/>\nPIAF senior vice chairman Nasir Hameed said constant hike in power tariff on the plea of fuel adjustment has pushed the electricity prices higher and added to the already soaring cost of trade and industry.<br \/>\nPIAF vice chairman Javed Siddiqi said that the regulatory authority had earlier increased power tariff by Rs3.09 per unit on account of FCA for Dec 2021 which placed an additional burden of Rs30 billion on the power consumers while more than 8.5 billion units of electricity were used in December last year.<br \/>\nPIAF leadership asked the government to shut down all expensive oil-based power plants to ensure availability of cheaper energy for consumers.<br \/>\nThey lamented that the previous government did not pay heed to rehabilitation and maintenance of old power plants which caused several system constraints, inflicting heavy losses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD The Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) said Saturday the high cost of doing business has proved to be dangerous for Pakistan\u2019s industry, discouraging investment both in capacity and capability, calling for lessening the burden of heavy taxes on the power sector.
