Proposed head recuses himself from heading commission
\n ISLAMABAD
\nThe federal cabinet has decided to constitute a commission to investigate the foreign conspiracy regarding regime change in the country.
\nFederal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said this while briefing the media persons about the decisions taken by the federal cabinet, which met with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair on Friday.
\nFawad said the commission to be headed by Lt General (retd) Tariq Khan will be mandated to investigate threats of regime change in Pakistan from some foreign countries. He said the commission will also investigate the local handlers of this conspiracy. He said all the material concerning the foreign conspiracy will be placed before all the members of the National Assembly.
\nHowever, Lt General (retd) Tariq Khan has announced to recuse himself from heading the commission in a tweet later.
\nTalking about Supreme Court\u2019s decision of setting aside the deputy speaker\u2019s ruling in the no-confidence resolution against the prime minister, Fawad said the government is considering filing a review petition and availing other legal options in this regard.
\nHe said that Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif has contended that there is no such \u201cthreat letter\u201d of regime change. Therefore, it was included in the commission\u2019s ToRs that it would determine whether this \u201cletter\u201d and the threat of regime change in it exist or not. It would also dig out as to who supported the regime change plot locally, he added.
\nFawad, who is also the Law Minister, alleged that some specific members of the opposition knew everything about the plot. Not the entire members of the opposition are involved in this conspiracy, he added.
\nHe said the commission should also investigate the meetings of foreign officials with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf\u2019s (PTI) dissident members of the National Assembly ahead of the no-trust motion.
\nThe commission, he said, has been given 90 days for concluding the investigation over the \u201cregime change plot\u201d.
\nThe content of the \u201cthreat letter\u201d clearly indicated that the no-trust move was not ordinary, rather it was brought on the whims of foreign powers, he said, asserting that some \u201cbig mafias\u201d are behind the no-confidence motion.
\nHe said the federal cabinet, while reposing full confidence in the leadership of the PM, has decided to present evidence pertaining to the involvement of foreign powers in the no-confidence motion before all the MNAs on Saturday.
\nThe minister said not only is the whole nation concerned about the revival of the horse-trading culture in the country but it has also rejected the current practice of buying the conscience of MNAs through money.
\nAs regards the statement of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) about the preparation of the fresh election, he said the government would extend all kinds of assistance to the watchdog for holding free, fair, and transparent elections in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
