Islamabad High Court (IHC) has remarked we have to say with regret that the politicians have learned nothing and every thing will become Ok from the day the politicians learn some thing from the history. <\/p>\n
The acquittal application from federal minister Ahsan Iqbal came up for hearing before 2-member bench of IHC presided over by Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minallah in sports city complex construction reference Wednesday. <\/p>\n
NAB prosecutor told the court parawise comments have been filed and some additional documents have to be filed. <\/p>\n
The CJ inquired what is reference which has been filed. It is at what stage. <\/p>\n
NAB prosecutor told the court indictment has been made and the statements of three witnesses have been recorded. <\/p>\n
The court remarked you file interim challan under what clause of NAB ordinance.
\nNAB prosecutor told the court there is Supreme Court (SC) decision in this regard that supplementary reference can be filed. <\/p>\n
The court remarked you have to hold inquiry first and then investigation. Later all the material is placed before the chairman. In the light of it if he is satisfied then he approves to file the reference. <\/p>\n
NAB prosecutor told the court powers have been delegated to Prosecutor general in NAB amendment ordinance. <\/p>\n
The court remarked that ordinance may be going to expire. Your reference in fact is a challan. The reference is filed when investigation is completed. When reference is filed once then trial should be completed within 30 days. It will happen then when reference is filed after completion of all investigation and trial is completed within one month. What is allegation against Ahsan Iqbal in this reference.
\nNAB prosecutor told the court Ahsan Iqbal is charged with misusing his powers in this reference.
\nThe court remarked have you read our decision in Masood Chishti case. You have to tell two things that under what section interim or supplementary reference is filed. You have to tell in the light of Masood Chishti case how this reference is made. Give reply to these two questions. If you could not give reply then acquittal plea will be accepted. <\/p>\n
Ahsan Iqbal told the court after coming to rostrum please see how this reference was started. I entered into politics in 1993. I said to them they should prove that my assets had increased or decreased after I stepped into politics. I am not a dacoit or robber. They are subjecting us to character assassination campaign. <\/p>\n
The court remarked we should not say this.But we say with regret politicians have learnt nothing. The patriotic people of this country were charged that they were not loyal to Pakistan. Every thing will become all right the day the politicians learn from the history. I give reference to 1976 court decision. You should read it . The elected representatives are respectable for us. <\/p>\n
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till May 11.
