Says President can ask PM Shehbaz for a vote of confidence at any time
\n LAHORE
\nPakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former information minister Fawad Chaudhry Wednesday said the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf will challenge the election of Hamza Shehbaz as the Punjab chief minister in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
\nAccusing Hamza of occupying the top provincial office \u201cillegally,\u201d Fawad said a quo-warranto petition (a plea questioning the authority of a public office holder) will be filed with the LHC on Thursday \u201cand the court will be requested to remove Hamza as the provincial chief executive and order election on the coveted seat at the earliest\u201d.
\nThe PTI leader urged the court to take up the petition and conduct its hearing on a day-to-day basis, saying \u201cwe all know that courts are open 24 hours.\u201d
\nFawad said the speaker of the Punjab Assembly could have issued a notification, but the party decided to adopt a legal way to contest its case. \u201cInstead of an administrative action, we decided to approach the court and request it to sack the illegal chief minister.\u201d
\nHe reiterated the PTI\u2019s demand to the government to hold early elections, insisting that it was the only solution to the current political crisis.
\nFawad Chaudhry said that elections should be held in the whole country and President Arif Alvi can ask Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for a vote of confidence at any time. The PTI leader said that in his view Shehbaz does not have 172 votes at the moment adding that there is a political crisis at the moment and the only way to resolve to conduct free elections, he added.
\nHe was of the view that the country was suffering after Imran was sent packing under an \u201cinternational wish\u201d, leaving the national economy reeling, with the dollar reaching the Rs200 mark. \u201cWhoever is elected the next chief minister will have to move towards the dissolution of the assembly,\u201d he said.
\nIn response to a question, Fawad said he was not sure whether the establishment was pressing the government to hold early elections. \u201cBut any patriotic Pakistani can feel the damage the country is suffering, and immediate elections are the only solution\u201d.
